Abstract

The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of North America trade integration. Three indicators types of intraregional trade dependence are analyzed: intraregional trade index or share; the intraregional trade intensity and the regional trade introversion index. The results of trade integration analysis differs according to the indicator used so it is important to select the appropriate indicator. Since the more plain indicators have severe limitations, it is argued that the appropriate indicator is the regional trade introversion index. These indices are calculated for the North American Free Trade Agreement, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the European Union. The indices resulted are compared.
